Australians are obsessed with coffee.
Like super obsessed.
Walk around the CBD, any shopping centre and most high streets and what do you see?
Cafés, coffee shops, bakeries, patisseries, restaurants, holes in the wall, foyer bars, coffee kiosks. You name it – they sell coffee. You can probably throw a golf ball and hit 10 options for your next caffeine fix.
What on earth does this have to do with a new social media blog? Bear with me dear reader…
I was recently walking along a typical Sydney high street – packed with existing caffeine options – when I saw a new shop being refurbished. Coming soon….yep you guessed it, yet another trendy, funky, inner city coffee shop.
The thought hit me “WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD OPEN YET ANOTHER CAFE”?
Ditto social media blogs. Does the world need yet another blog about social media?
Well let’s think about that. How will that new cafe differentiate itself in a seemingly over serviced, commoditised market?
Maybe they become the cheapest? Or the most expensive premium specialist provider with unique blends? Perhaps the fit out will stand out? Maybe it’s the most generous loyalty scheme around? Specially designed for mums with kids….easier ways to order and pay….wow customer service….entertainment which entices and captivates….a unique range of pastries….organic and fair trade specialties….changing monthly themes.
I think you get the picture.
A crowded market is generally a sign of deep demand. Maybe it’s ready for a different perspective and some disruption. Ask Nokia how they feel about this.
I look forward to chatting with you.
